Water Qigong and Meditation

Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan, are physical practices for health and wellbeing which are part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  These practices are usually performed on land where practitioners can feel stability, balance, and grounding, but they can be performed also in warm water with enormous benefits for the body.

In Water Qigong breathing techniques are combined with movements that relax and strengthen the body by using the resistance of the water. Slow movements of the arms standing in stillness are alternate with full body movements engaging the hara or Dantien, the central point of gravity and balance of the body.

During the practice the attention is toward proper body alignment and coordinated breathing, and the continuous flow of movements brings to a meditative state of mind.

Water Qigong is practiced standing in shoulder-depth water, and classes are given to groups or as a individual therapeutic sessions one-on-one. Classes are guided and demonstrated by the facilitator in real time, with a progressive expansion of the movements

The basic practice of Water Qigong is based on movements that go from static to dynamic, and includes rotatory and asymmetrical movements. Techniques were adapted and developed as warm up for Watsu® practitioners before giving

sessions, which then become a useful practice for people with low mobility, elderly, and anybody who wants to expand body awareness and experience the benefit of TCM done in water.
